The Role

The Civil Litigation Legal Assistant provides administrative, operational, and legal support to attorneys
and paralegals within the firm’s Civil Litigation department. This position assists with client intake and
matter setup, legal research and drafting, discovery, document management, court filings, billing, trial
preparation, and works closely with attorneys throughout the lifecycle of a matter.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while
maintaining accurate files, meeting deadlines, communicating professionally with clients and attorneys,
and handling confidential information. The Legal Assistant is expected to work collaboratively with the
litigation team and provide dependable support from initial client intake through case resolution and file
closeout.

Job Duties Include:

  • Client Intake & Matter Management: Manage prospective client intake, schedule consultations,
    prepare engagement materials, establish new matters in Clio, and maintain accurate client files,
    trackers, and documentation throughout the life of the matter.

  • Litigation & Legal Support: Provide day-to-day support to civil litigation attorneys, including
    legal research, drafting pleadings and other legal documents, proofreading filings and
    correspondence, preparing templates, and assisting with court filings and service.

  • Discovery & Case Preparation: Assist with all phases of discovery, including document
    collection, organization, Bates stamping, drafting and reviewing discovery materials, evidence
    management, case timelines, exhibit preparation, and trial binders.

  • Client & Attorney Support: Coordinate meetings, calls, and follow-up with clients and attorneys;
    track outstanding questions and tasks; facilitate communication; and provide ongoing
    administrative and operational support for active matters.

  • Employment Law Support: Assist with employment matters (including many matters
    representing police officers) through jurisdictional and compensation research, data collection
    and analysis, Excel spreadsheet management, preparation of charts and exhibits, organization of
    negotiation materials, and arbitration support.

  • Document Management & Administrative Support: Maintain organized electronic and physical
    files, coordinate documents for attorney review and signature, track billable work, assist with
    billing and matter closeout, archive closed files, and provide general administrative support to the
    litigation team as needed.

Other duties as assigned by the Managing Litigation Paralegal or Attorneys.

Compensation & and Benefits

  • $22-$27 an hour depending on qualifications and experience
  • Significant retirement benefits including 401(k) with 4% firm match, cash balance contributions
    and profit-sharing contributions
  • Multiple health insurance options with the firm paying 75% of individual premiums for all plans
    and 60% of all family premiums

Skills and Qualifications

  • College degree or relevant work experience
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Comfortability with AI platforms preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and process orientation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
